The new "Smart" Meters are set from the factory to NOT read "backwards" like the old mechanical ones did by default.

That means it's not easy for a homeowner to buy a small Grid Tie Inverter (GTI) and just plug it in and start saving power.

It makes the homeowner jump through corporate hoops trying to get a meter that will "credit" kilowatts during the day to be used at a later time.

This is not "green" friendly at all and a concern to anyone that may already have a solar installation or anyone thinking about installing some.
